Chapter 6: The Family and Social Support Systems

This chapter focuses on the diversity and complexity of today’s family structures, and how they influence the social support that is available to seniors, particularly when seniors need to receive caregiving, or become caregivers themselves.

Regardless of their personal preferences and beliefs regarding family, CSAs who understand the risks and benefits of the different forms of family structure are in a better position to help their clients with their current needs and to plan for the future.
