CSA Exam Policies - Special Accommodations

The Certification Council will evaluate requests for accommodation in testing procedures, due to a permanent or temporary disability, on a case-by-case basis. A written request from the candidate and recent (within last three years) medical documentation will be required at least 30 business days prior to the test date.

Written requests for special accommodations in testing due to a physical or mental condition must be evaluated by the Certification Council. Requests must be received at least 30 business days prior to the test.

1. Applicants must show evidence of a disability that is covered by the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) and produce medical recommendations to address their special needs. A diagnosis alone is not sufficient. Test anxiety is not an accepted disability. Accommodations, if made, do not guarantee finishing the test or a positive outcome in terms of score.
2. Applicants must submit a formal, typed report on letterhead from a medical doctor including the following:
   1. Diagnosis
   2. Current functional limitations
   3. Degree of impairment in normal activities
   4. Current needs in regards to testing
   5. Recommendations for adjusting testing procedures
3. Cognitive disabilities (including learning disabilities) require documentation. In addition to the diagnostic documentation detailed in item number 2, applicants may include school records, clinical or test data.
4. Request for accommodation based on English as a second language will be considered on a case by case basis. A written request from the applicant and documentation of language skill from a professional will be required.
