Pre-Class Study:
Candidates must invest 10 to 15 hours of study prior to the class using the Working With Seniors textbook and the Becoming a CSA participant workbook.

Course Materials Provided

  • Working With Seniors: Health, Financial and Social Issues

    This in-depth textbook (approximately 700 pages) contains more than 22 chapters of detailed content on the key issues that affect seniors’ lives. Each chapter contains a list of resources for seniors. A special section focuses on building the CSA’s practice, including ethics and marketing to seniors. The textbook is the foundation for the CSA curriculum and serves as a reference after the designation is earned.

  • Becoming a CSA Participant Workbook

    The participant workbook (approximately 95 pages) helps students focus on key learning points and prepare for the CSA exam, chapter-by-chapter, with lists of key terms and concepts, fill-in-the-blank exercises and review questions.

  • Classroom Study Guide

    At class, each student receives a Classroom Study Guide (approximately 95 pages) that contains copies of the PowerPoint presentations delivered by the faculty during the 3-1/2 day program. The guide is designed for note taking and enhances students’ study for the exam.

CSA Designation Exam

The CSA exam contains 150 multiple-choice questions. Students take the monitored exam on the morning of the fourth day. They have three hours to complete it. Results are provided to each candidate the week following the test date.
Pass/Fail Grading: A passing score on the CSA exam is 70% or more correct answers (105 questions).

Society of Certified Senior Advisors fills the educational void by teaching its members about priority concerns facing seniors and how a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) can best meet senior's needs.
